The week of 1/19/2015 brought Artist in Residence (AIR) artist Terri Herring in to visit our 3rd Grade classes. She taught the children about the history and significance of gargoyles and even read them a poem about these magical creatures (The Gargoyle on the Roof by Jack Prelutsky). Each child then used their imagination to create their very own gargoyle out of terracotta clay and some very basic tools — some were fierce, some were cute, some were silly, but ALL were terrific, original, works of art. These creatures will be dried and fired and returned to their creators to keep as their very own protectors! Here are some fun pictures of the AIR Gargoyle sessions in Mrs. Caione’s and Mrs. Huntington’s classes.
